On December 11, 2025, the following CalMessage was sent to all UC Berkeley students, faculty, and staff.
Dear campus community,
We are pleased to announce that we have completed an agreement with Satellite Affordable Housing Associates (SAHA) to develop and operate the supportive housing component of the People's Park housing project. This milestone advances the university's commitment to provide permanent homes for formerly unhoused and extremely low-income individuals, in collaboration with the City of Berkeley and the State of California.
The supportive housing will provide permanent residences in a facility that also provides onsite services designed to help residents achieve long-term stability and well-being.
I also want to take this opportunity to express, on behalf of the campus community, our gratitude and respect for Carol Christ, our former Chancellor, who made the land available for this essential part of the project. I share her belief that our university, as a good neighbor in the East Bay community, has a responsibility to help address the housing crisis in our region.
